This writing paper is going to be devoted to contemplating my organization and change within it in the context of different images of change as well as various pressures for change – both internal and external. I would like to remind that my company Reservoir Laboratories AS has experienced the following change. It went through the acquisition by Weatherford International Ltd., one of the biggest companies in the world which deal with “innovative mechanical solutions, technology and services for the drilling and production sectors of the oil and gas industry”.

In this essay, I will first introduce two well known, but not new strategy models: Porter’s Generic Strategy and Cooperative Strategy. Then, we will talk about the importance of strategy innovation, using the case of Tyson Foods and DirecTV. I will discuss the question if new strategy models destroy the old ones, using the case of Southwest Airlines. At last we conclude that no matter new or old, but the strategies we pursue must sustain the competitive advantages of the company.

This week’s topic dealt with a term of vision and modeling the vision statements. In fact, I think we all are familiar with the notion of vision, but we rarely concentrated our attention on it in everyday life, perhaps because we worked in stable companies with a clear and long-established vision, perhaps because we just didn’t face it in our careers. However, it’s surprising how a right vision statement can help the company in finding its path among several possible. But we also studied the examples when a wrongly formulated vision statement led to misunderstandings and resulted in company’s disability to operate within defined boundaries.

The main idea behind the Equity Theory is that workers, while trying to balance what they invested in to their jobs and what they obtain from them, are unconsciously attributing values to each of his various contributions. According to the Equity Theory, the most highly motivated employee is the one who perceives his rewards to be equal to his contributions. If he sees that he is working and being rewarded at about the same rate as his colleagues, then he will judge that he is being treated fairly.
