Writing great research papers
Students dedicate a lot of attention to writing good research papers, partly because a great deal of attention to this paper is paid by their professors, partly because research paper is a good way to demonstrate one’s skills, competence and qualification in chosen field. Here we’ll try to denominate the main steps towards successful research paper writing.
The clarity and integrity of statement won’t be reached without general plan of research paper. Writer should draw up such a plan just like an architect creates a plan of a new building. The writer must think before writing, not vice versa.
First goes the title. Specialists say that successful and felicitous title makes a huge step towards better presentation of chosen topic and more importantly, forms reader’s first impression. A catching title attracts attention and inspires on further reading. Then goes the research paper itself which consists of the following parts: annotation, introduction, body, conclusions and references (works cited page, bibliography).
Annotation has the functions of expanded title and contains information about contents of the paper. Badly written annotation can spoil a good-written research paper. Annotation should reveal what the most interesting and applicable in the work is, according to the author. The next part – introduction – is tended to be omitted, however, it’s a “must have” for a great research paper. It’s appropriate to include information about previous investigation in the same field, and sources and works that inspired the writer on choosing this specific topic. The main part – body – should contain the main idea, aim, objective to investigate, investigation itself and analysis of the results of conducted research. The explanation of results is considered to be the hardest part, however it is also the most interesting part, as the aim of the whole research paper is to finally find the reasons, explanations, causes etc. of investigated topic. Conclusions frame completed work. They should not be numerous: three-five points are enough to shape the results of investigation and to explain the practical value of research. References page should be properly executed, as it’s important not to omit any of the sources used for writing a research paper. The interested reader has to be able to find the source according to the description indicated on the reference page.
