What if you need to write a review?

Our five-year experience in custom essay writing shows that book and movie/play reviews comprise a significant percentage of school assignments especially if a student decides to major in arts or humanities. Therefore, our representatives from Literature and Fine Arts departments decided to compile a set of recommendations to help students cope with these kinds of assignments.  

A compulsory preliminary stage of any review is to read the book or watch the play/movie/musical. After all, you are supposed to provide your personal opinion and you can supply it only having familiarized with the work.

It is also helpful to learn about the background of the author or producer, which can also give you hints on the reasons why he chose a particular subject or setting. If you have a chance to familiarize yourself with other works of the author/producer that would greatly help you to make comparisons in the context of the particular author’s heritage. 

Some believe that it is unadvisable to read other reviews or critical works before writing one’s own. However, reading other reviews will help you get acquainted with the scope of criticism concerning the particular work and see what has been missed, if any. Moreover, your essay will look more professional if you are able to refer to other critics and argumentatively agree or disagree with their statements. 

Do not afraid to be creative. Even if your opinion differs from that of the majority of critics you can still present it in your essay and defend your point.  

Last but not the least: every personal statement in your review needs to be well-argued and supported with evidence from the source or author’s background. Just providing a number of facts and opinions which are not connected and do not produce a structured piece of work won’t earn you a good grade. And as with any other essay, be sure to check your spelling and grammar.
